The Armenian National Council of South America (Consejo Nacional Armenio de Sudamerica) issued a communiqué on the 3rd anniversary of the assassination of Hrant Dink, Editor of the Agos newspaper published by the Armenian community in Turkey.

The communiqué particularly reads: “On January 19 we marked the next anniversary of Hrant Dink’s death. He was one of the intellectuals who allowed himself to ‘insult Turkish national identity’, just as Orhan Pamuk and others, who were tried and sentenced to imprisonment for violating Article 301 of the Criminal Code of Turkey. That is those admitting official history are prosecuted. Official Ankara continues this policy.

”The CNA is concerned over the numerous events in Turkey that run counter to the democratic principles declared by the Turkish Government. The Turkish reality is evidence, however, that all the Turkish authorities are saying is a mere lie and show in order to meet requirements set by the European Union and United States.
