Sept. 25, Director of Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan told NEWS.am he will not take part in the activities of scientific sub-commission that is to be formed within the intergovernmental committee under Armenia-Turkey Protocols.
Demoyan outlined that he received no invitation for participation, and “Even if I got it, most likely I would turn it down, as I have nothing to discuss with people whose academic judgments are strongly limited, who act under pressure and in the atmosphere of constant fear. I strongly believe that Genocide issue will not be discussed within the framework of sub-commission activities. In addition, Turkish side will try to forward the issue to the agenda and then the sub-commission will come to a deadlock. I don’t think the Armenian scholars will discuss this issue in any format,” he stated.
Demoyan also noted that neither sub-commission members, nor agenda, or other issues related to its activities are discussed in Armenia. He did not rule out the possibility that these issues are being discussed at higher levels not that he knows of. The lull on Armenian side compared to the active preparatory works on Turkish part does not bother him.
“The issues of establishing the sub-commission, its activities, all this is yet so ephemeral that there is no point in worrying about Armenian side to be caught off balance unlike Turks making active preparations. Do not create phobia and then fear them,” the scientist advised.
