Turkish international airport Yeni Shehir is blocked. Armenian delegation (Armenian national football team and the journalists) arrived in Bursa and at the moment are heading from the airport to hotels. Turkey-Armenia qualifying match is due on October 14 on Bursa stadium after Ataturk.
About thirty members of Armenian Security Service are at spot. Cameras are banned at the airport, NEWS.am correspondent informs from Bursa.
NEWS.am informsed earlier the first Armenia-Turkey qualifying match was held September 6, 2008 in Yerevan where Armenian team was defeated 0:2. Although, the Turkish team lost the chance to win ticket to Mundial World Cup in UAE, it will be a serious test for Armenian national team. Turkish side playing at home will try to do its best to make up for the lost round on a positive note. The historic implication is always present at sportive face-offs between the two countries.
The Bursa match is a part of significant political processes that have been termed the “football diplomacy”. President of Turkey Abdullah Gul attended the match in Yerevan on the invitation of RA President Serzh Sargsyan. The Turkish leader made a return curtsey by officially invitating Sargsyan to attend the match in Bursa. However, it is not clear yet, whether RA President will attend the match or not, as he has been baseing his decision on the recent developments on Armenia-Turkey normalization and signing of the protocols.
