Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) published a report in Turkey on the occasion of the World Teachers' Day.

CNNturk reports that teachers work up to 1,652 hours yearly in the OECD member-states, and the annual salary of the highest-paid teachers reaches U.S. $54,000 in the United States and Europe, against U.S. $18,000 in Turkey, where teachers work up to 1,832 hours.

The Turkish Education Union issued a report and included the issue of salaries and work. According to the document, 1/3 of Turkish teachers are grudgingly working.

International organizations list Turkey among states with a low education level despite high living standards in the country. Many people in the country do not read books. A number of surveys showed that Turkey is even behind a number of African states in this respect.
