After a two-year interval, Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan is leaving to Washington. On December 7, Premier Erdogan is to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama. The Haberaktuel website reported that the following issues are on the visit agenda:

Struggle against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PPK)

Turkey will ask the United States for help. Specifically, after withdrawing its troops from Iraq, the United State is expected to put an end to terrorism in that country and prevent the movement of the PKK groups in the Qandil Mountains. Premier Erdogan will ask from President Obama what he asked from Robert Mueller, FBI Director, during his recent visit to Turkey. Specifically, Premier Erdogan will demand that the PKK members be handed over to Turkey.

Cyprus problem

The U.S. President and the Turkish Premier will also discuss the Cyprus problem. Turkey will once again state that there is not enough time for resolving the problem, and the previously stated December 2009 will be postponed until April 2010. During this period, before the presidential election, will be awaiting the U.S. assistance. Turkey will also wait for Turkey to appoint a representative for Cyprus.

Iranian nuclear problem

The U. S. will demand that Turkey clear up its position on the Iranian nuclear problem. Turkey will make the following statement: “All the states have the right to nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes. Nuclear weapons are a potential great damage to the humanity, but the problem must be resolved by means of diplomacy and dialogue.”

Relations with Armenia

The next issue to be brought up by the U.S. is the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations. Washington will underline the importance of ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols by the two Parliaments. Turkey will state once more that without progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, the protocols are difficult to ratified by the Turkish Parliament.

Erdogan and Obama will also discuss the Afghan problem, Israel-Turkey relations nd Nabucco project.
