21:20, 23.04.2012 Region: Azerbaijan Theme: Politics, Society

Head of PACE Jean-Claude Mignon said he firmly condemns massive violations of Azerbaijani journalists’ rights.

Asked about the state with reporters’ rights in Azerbaijan, Mignon said he immediately reacted to the reports on murders of the journalists.

Speaking at Monday press conference, Mignon said the Azerbaijani authorities should be reminded if they want to play a role in the international arena, then they have to protect their journalists. He underscored the importance of this in the context of forthcoming Eurovision song contest to be held in Baku.

Mignon added that the Council of Europe will remind the authorities of journalists’ rights.
