YEREVAN. – Regular session of Armenia’s Police operative headquarters, which is tasked to establish proper public order during the country’s National Assembly elections, held a regular session on Wednesday, Deputy Police Chief Hunan Poghosyan said during a press conference on the same day.

“The Police consider the holding of fair, transparent elections as a matter of honor, and they will execute their powers vested by law to the fullest extent,” Poghosyan noted.

In his words, they received 34 distress calls during the election campaign season so far. Three calls did not receive a result; it was decided to not to launch criminal proceedings for eight cases; one criminal case was opened; and one call was not considered as information on a crime.

In his turn, the Police Headquarters Chief Vardan Yeghiazaryan noted that the plan’s first phase is implemented and all pre-election measures are carried out; the remaining will be executed between Saturday and May 7. Hotlines are established, too.

“We met with the CIS and OSCE/ODIHR observers. All issues, which they are concerned about, are resolved. The Police are informed about the observers, and they will provide maximum assistance,” Vardan Yeghiazaryan said.
