YEREVAN.- Economic cooperation can help resolve political problems between Armenia and Turkey, said Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, Leonidas Chrisantopulos, speaking to the press in Yerevan on the occasion of the 39th plenary session of BSEC started today in the Armenian capital.

He reminded that BSEC has concluded the negotiations on granting transit permits for Armenian container trucks.

“They allow Armenian trucks to go through Turkey. This actually works, and 4-5 trucks have already gone through. This is an example of economic cooperation helping to resolve political issues,” he said.

To remind, the permits are issued under a yearly quota of 200, available for TIR-compliant trucks. He stressed that the agenda of BSEC is purely economic, but on the sidelines of multilateral meetings, individual meetings of delegates bear no limitations.

“They can conduct negotiations and discuss whatever they want,” he said, adding that BSEC is a regional forum which can be used by countries not having direct diplomatic relations, such as Turkey and Armenia or Russia and Georgia.
