YEREVAN.- Participation of Armenian president and other officials in the election campaign under the mask of working visits is a violation of the Constitution, said representatives of the opposition bloc.

Representatives of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Vahe Grigoryan spoke on Wednesday at the Constitutional Court during hearing on ANC’s claim to cancel results of the parliamentary elections.

According to him, officials’ presence during president’s working trips influenced the voters and affected the election process.

“The defendant [Central Electoral Commission] failed to answer our questions regarding participation of president and officials in the campaign, inflated list of voters, disappearing stamps from the passports and other issues,” Grigoryan said.

He stressed that opposition’s goal is not politicize the issue but “to resume violated right for free elections”.

In his turn, defendant – Secretary of Central Electoral Commission Armen Smbatyan – said the claims presented by ANC are not proved by facts. It is impossible to cancel election results even at one precinct based on the examples brought by ANC, he said.
