YEREVAN. – The Labor Code does not apply to lawyers, and therefore they cannot go on a strike, Armenia’s Acting Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan said, during a briefing with news reporters on Thursday, reflecting on close to two-hundred attorneys’ statement that they will declare a one-day precautionary work stoppage on June 11.

“They have invented that not attending a court session would be observed like a participation in an educational process or seminar,” stated Tovmasyan.

According to him, the issue at hand is as follows: Does the Court of Appeals have a common practice when accepting the cases? But he did not rule out the possibility of making legislative changes.

Also, the Acting Minister noted that the aforesaid Court’s sessions must be recorded and become accessible for the public. He promised that many questions will be answered by way of the judiciary reforms in the next four years.
