YEREVAN. – US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton’s visit to the region seemed to be hampered because of the Azerbaijani diversionary operations, Regional Studies Center Director, political analyst Richard Giragosian said during a press conference on Monday.

But, as per Giragosian, it is important and significant that Clinton visited Turkey, too, since a new platform and a new level are visible in Turkish-American ties.

The analyst also expressed a view that these relations are still tense, but there are positive developments, nonetheless.

“[And] This is conditioned on the state of affairs in Syria because Turkey supplies weapons to Syrian rebels, and this serves the US interests as well. At the same time, Russia supplies weapons to [Syrian President] Assad’s government, which means Turkey and Russia will have a conflict of interests,” stated Richard Giragosian.
