YEREVAN.- The  Cafesjian Museum of Art will host a celebration of the Great Britain’s National Day – the Queen’s Birthday on June 15.

Every year the British Embassy in Yerevan celebrates the official birthday of the British Monarch. This year the celebration will be marked by the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation - the Diamond Jubilee.

For this occasion an honorary guest is invited: Norayr Makaryan was the witness of the historic event in London in 1952, being the only Armenian on board of cruiser Sverdlov among 1200 Soviet sailors who saluted the young Queen.

The archive films of Elizabeth II’s coronation and the ceremonial fleet parade (including the arrival of cruiser Sverdlov) will be shown at the event.

The guests will also be able to observe how painter-designer Tatev Mnacakanyan creates her artwork devoted to the 60th anniversary of Elizabeth II’s coronation.

Yerevan residents will be a part of Diamond Jubilee celebrations as well: during all weekends of June actors dressed as the Queen and the Guard will stroll in the parks of Yerevan. They will also be present at the June 15 event in the Cafesjian Museum.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. She accessed the British throne in 1952 when she was only 25. The official birthday of the Queen is celebrated on a selected day in June depending on weather.
