No alternative to peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict – Lithuanian FM

12:16, 07.07.2012 Region: Armenia, Karabakh, Azerbaijan Theme: Politics

There is no alternative to peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Lithuanian FM Audronius Azubalis said in an interview with Azertag agency.

“Use of force as well as status quo does not contribute to resolution of the protracted conflict. We were alarmed by recent events on the border,” he said, stressing that it is important to create mechanisms to hold investigation into the incidents.

According to him, simple practical steps such as removal of snipers from the line of contact and investigation into the incidents on frontline, will reduce escalation considerably.

Azubalis believes the sides must spare no effort to reach consensus based on the Madrid principles.
