YEREVAN. – Armenia’s former Road Police Chief Margar Ohanyan, who is sentenced to six years in prison for appropriation, did not appeal his sentence because soon he will write a petition for being granted a pardon by President Serzh Sargsyan and he will be released, Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes.

“Is Ohanyan preparing to do such thing? In response to this question, attorney Mkrtich Vasakyan said: ‘That is his personal [decision]. I cannot say such thing. We are not discussing such matter.’

Vasakyan also said that if Ohanyan prepares to do such thing, he will know about it. ‘He must tell me so I can write [the petition for a pardon]; he cannot write [it],’ Ohanyan’s lawyer told our reporter yesterday [Monday], and added that he has not written any [such] petition so far.

To note, during the last court hearing Ohanyan, instead of making a defense statement, he had made an announcement whereby he had accepted his guilt before the state.

He was accused of appropriating gasoline and misusing official power,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
