YEREVAN. – Former Armenian FM and current Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) MP Vartan Oskanian does not imagine how he should follow the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, when his birthplace Aleppo is a war field, the MP wrote on his Facebook page.

“The Games launch in London on Friday. Total of 25 athletes represent Armenia and I wish them to return with medals. At the same time I do not imagine how I should follow the opening ceremony of the Games, when my birthplace Aleppo is a war field and the Armenian community is in danger, when the confronting sides are ready to a fatal clash, which may also have serious impacts on our compatriots. I am also very surprised that no international organization, first of all the UN, or any other state called on the Olympic ceasefire. I believe it could have been a good opportunity to force the two sides, including the Syrian authorities and opposition, a ceasefire and try to achieve such a diplomatic settlement of the issue, which could have covered the demands of both sides. Maybe Armenia as an interested state could offer the idea of the Olympic ceasefire? We have still time,” Oskanian wrote.
