YEREVAN.- Amid speculation about urgent visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Russia, political analysts wonder whether Syrian crisis was the key issue to be discussed.

“Tension in Syria goes beyond the country. It turns from local tension into a regional one,” Karen Bekaryan told reporters on Thursday.

There are many factors – friendly relations with Syria and historic ties, tensions in Aleppo with its large Armenian community, and finally intensified efforts of the neighboring states.

“There were speculations that Turkish forces crossed the Syrian border. Iran is active, too. If something happens in Turkey and Iran, Armenia will be a direct neighbor of hot region,” said Bekaryan, the head of Center of European Integration.

In the context of relations with Russia, Armenia is in charge of southern direction of the CSTO. Most likely, strategic partners held consultation on Syrian crisis.
