Death toll in Iran earthquake has reached 306, official said on Monday.

The recent twin quake in Northwestern Iran killed 306 people and injured 3,037, Health Minister Marziyeh Vahid Dastjerdi said addressing the lawmakers on Monday.

The Minister said 116 aftershocks have been registered in the area, Fars agency reported.The first stage of rescue operations ended on Sunday.

As  Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, four quakes measured 6.2 to 6.6 jolted Iran’s north-west near the Armenian border on Saturday

The quakes were also followed by aftershocks measured 4.1 to 4.8 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt also in the cities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. A 4.5 magnitude tremor was registered in Armenia’s south and 3-4 magnitude in capital Yerevan. 

A two-day mourning was announced.
