YEREVAN.- None of Armenians who died in Syria was killed because of national or religious discrimination, editor of Azad Hye Middle East Armenian portal Hrach Kalsahakian told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, there was no violence against the Armenians, not only in areas populated by Arabs, but also in Qamishli, a city with major Kurdish population in north-east of Syria, near the border with Turkey.

The situation in Kesab, a town with Armenian population and Alawis minority, remains almost unchanged. The opposition is more focused against the Alawis, who, despite their small number, are more influential. However, communication in these areas is seriously damaged.

The problem of transport and communication also worsened in Aleppo. Aleppo - Damascus flights continue, but tickets are limited, prices have gone up. Aleppo airport is controlled by the government, but only Syrian and Egyptian national airlines, as well as Armenia’s Armavia are operating international flights.

Although Beirut is the closest Armenian community of Aleppo and seems relatively better option than Armenia, few are moving there. Land road remains dangerous, Aleppo - Beirut flight is also suspended.

Migration to rich countries of the Persian Gulf - Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar – is also limited.

“Last week two air companies Fly Dubai and Air Arabia stopped operating flights to Aleppo. The only operated flight is Sharjah - Latakia as well as several flights to Damascus,” Kalsahakian added.
