YEREVAN. – Those who seek asylum in Armenia are placed in the Special Shelter, which operates under the State Migration Service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

As a rule, the country’s state budget allocates an annual amount envisioned for thirty asylum seekers. But this time, and in connection with the events unrolling in Syria, thirty-five people are already housed at the shelter, and this number will climb.

The Government covers the communal, food, hygiene item, and individual undergarment expenses of the shelter residents.

Now, additional state budget allocations are in need to take care of the additional expenses. The State Migration Service has applied to the Government with a request for an additional and close to AMD 2 million (approx. $4,887). This matter is included in the agenda of the next Cabinet session.
