YEREVAN. – The Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia (UMBA) is deeply concerned by the fate of our compatriots in Syria, UMBA President Arsen Ghazaryan’s statement reads, and specifically continues:

“Today they are facing a difficult situation and have set their sights on the Motherland [Armenia]. Our people— and especially we, businessmen—cannot remain self-contained to their problems. And our Union members have expressed a readiness to lend a hand to Syrian Armenians.

The Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia has priority tasks specifically with regard to businessmen who arrive in Armenia. The Union members have expressed a unanimous willingness to assist our compatriots in various domains:

To provide jobs, or create new jobs, for Syrian Armenians; to assist Syrian-Armenian businessmen in establishing businesses in Armenia and transferring their business abroad to Armenia; to assist those who wish to invest in Union-member companies; to promote their integration in Armenia; to organize seminars, or professional re-qualification courses; to introduce Armenia’s economic law to the businessmen; [and] to assist Syrian-Armenian students in scholarship payments.

The Union has set up a working group which will cooperate with Armenia’s Diaspora and Foreign Affairs ministries and with related state and public organizations.”
