YEREVAN. – There still is corruption in schools, albeit it has trimmed down, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov stated Wednesday, at joint session of NA standing committees, posing a question to Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan.

What is more, as per Sharmazanov, the main complaints in this regard come from the schools that are under regional jurisdiction, in the case when the Education and Science Ministry is in charge of this domain. Sharmazanov also drew attention to children’s disciplining, which must be anchored in national and Christian system of values.

In response, Ashotyan noted that today’s schools reflect the present-day society. “This behavior is not good, and we know this not solely from the press,” the Minister remarked. In his words, today’s Armenian society does not have a system of values that is anchored in stable values, and the country’s Constitution is the sole document around which the society was able to reach national consensus.
