YEREVAN. – Vacation in Armenia is not more expensive than in Georgia, Armenia’s deputy Minister of Economy Ara Petrosyan said on Thursday at the establishment of Armenian-Russian joint scientific-touristic expedition throughout Armenia. In response to the question on how to attract own citizens to spending vacations inside the country and not to choose the Georgian shore, in case when prices are three times cheaper outside Armenia, Petrosyan said that the issue is being periodically circulated. “I assure you that prices in Armenia are not higher for three times, but even cheaper for 30 percent, as compared with Georgian hotels of the same class. It is another thing that some prefer sea to Armenia’s Sevan or Jermuk,” Petrosyan claimed. In addition, domestic tourism increased by 13.2 percent for the first six months, at the same time tourism from abroad also increased by 5 percent, totaling 280,000 people. As a whole, the deputy minister proposed to consider the tourism development in a long term. “Yerevan has already become one of the attractive regional centers,” he concluded.
