Russian-Armenian filmmaker Karen Shahnazarov’s movie entitled “White Tiger” has been included in the long list of the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2012 Oscar Academy Awards, the Academy’s press release informs. The list includes 71 films.    

To note, this is the second consecutive year that Russia presents to the Oscars a movie about the ex-USSR’s Great Patriotic War fought during WWII.  

Russian writer and historian Ilya Boyashov’s book entitled “The Tank Operator, or The White Tiger” is the background for Shahnazarov’s film. According the plot, Soviet Army sergeant Ivan Naydyonov (Aleksey Vertkov), who had miraculously escaped from a burning tank, gets into a deadly battle with a “white tiger,” that is, a German ghost tank, RIA Novosti News Agency of Russia reports.
