YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) National Seismic Protection Service recorded a 5.7-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday at 10:26am local time. Its epicenter was in Iran, 28 kilometers northwest of Ahar city, MES informed Armenian News-NEWS.am

The tremor’s hypocenter was ten kilometers beneath the surface, and it measured 7-8 at the epicenter area.

According to preliminary data, the underground shaking was felt in Armenia, too. It measured 3-4 in Kajaran and Kapan cities, 3 in Goris city, and 2-3 in Jermuk and Ararat cities.    

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, an earthquake occurred in Kapan city of Armenia’s Syunik Region, on Wednesday at around 10:25am, a Kapan resident told Armenian News-NEWS.am. According to him, there was a strong tremor, but, fortunately, there was no devastation. In the resident’s words, the Kapan locals have become “immune” to tremors after the recent quake in Iran, but they left the buildings yet again, and the children came out of their school buildings and stood in open areas.
