YEREVAN.- Armenian Americans who voted for Barack Obama could hope for his more elicit statements on the Armenian Genocide, said director of the Institute of Oriental Studies Ruben Safrastyan.

Many of them could vote for Obama recalling his “Meds Yeghern” (Armenian Genocide – ed.) in an address to the American Armenian community.

“A few could remember about Obama’s indirect hints on Armenian Genocide made during his trip to Turkey,” Safrastyan told reporters on Monday.

The analyst recalled that first time in many years neither Obama, nor his rival Romney met with the representatives of the Armenian National Congress of America and refrained from giving any promises.

Safrastyan believes it is conditioned by Washington’s unwillingness to harm active talks with Turkey which is becoming an important U.S. ally in the Middle East after ties with Egypt are lost.

Nevertheless, Armenian voters’ loyalty to Obama is explained by traditional ties with California branch of the Democratic Party, he added.
