YEREVAN. – Armenian capital city Yerevan is preparing for the New Year and Christmas season with an unprecedented number and quality of events and innovations.

The celebrations will kick off on December 20, with the first open-air concert and a symbolic event, when Mayor Taron Margaryan will ceremoniously turn on the lights of the huge Christmas tree at Republic Square and the festive lights of the city; this will be followed by a large firework display, Yerevan Municipality Information and Public Relations Department informs.

“We have planned a wide range of programs in all administrative regions [of Yerevan]. For the first time this year, Christmas trees will be placed at some yards as well, where small parties will be held, and concert programs with participation by Santa Clauses,” Mayor’s advisor Aram Sukiasyan informed.

Also, a one-day event is envisioned for children, on January 5 at Liberty Square, during which well-known singers and ensembles will perform.

On January 6—that is, on Armenian Christmas Day—Christmas will be celebrated again at Liberty Square, and with a concert program.

The festivities will come to a close with a huge event to be held on January 13.
