YEREVAN. – There are no prospects for improvement in state relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, Iranian Studies specialist Vardan Voskanyan stated during a press conference on Saturday.

“Although the media disseminate information with respect to Azerbaijan’s anti-Iranian measures, the Azerbaijani party avoids openly stating that it will make its territory available in the case of military operations against Iran,” Voskanyan noted.

In his words, state relations between Iran and Azerbaijan cannot improve because Azerbaijan’s actions are geared toward dismembering the Iranian state and adjoining Iranian Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan.

As for Iranian-Azerbaijani territorial issues, the Iranian Studies specialist specifically said as follows:

“I don’t think Iran would take steps that could result in the escalation of tension among the neighboring countries. First of all, it is necessary to take into account that Iran is under an economic and a political blockade.”
