YEREVAN. – The UN Security Council held a discussion on Wednesday, which was entitled “Comprehensive Approach in the Fight Against Terrorism.”  

Addressing the event, Armenia’s Ambassador to UN, Karen Nazaryan, noted that the threat of terrorism assumes actions by the UN agencies that deal with counterterrorism and cross-border crimes and by other intergovernmental organizations, and he underscored the respective cooperation, Armenian MFA press service informs.   

Nazaryan added that Armenia’s closed borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan, and the fact that weapons and ammunition are accumulated under the pretext of an unresolved conflict, have a negative impact on the cooperation in combating terrorism.   

Armenia’s ambassador considered it impermissible to associate terrorism with the struggle for exercising the right of peoples’ to self-determination, and he condemned the suppression of this right.    

Also, Karen Nazaryan reflected on the state-level preaching of enmity in Armenia’s neighborhood, he stressed that this could promote terrorism, and he called on to replace this conduct with tolerance and discourse.
