YEREVAN.- It is difficult to unequivocally assert what was Azerbaijan guided by while pardoning Ramil Safarov, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian told reporters on Thursday.

He recalled that the incident was unanimously condemned by the international community, noting that one of the probable reasons of releasing Safarov was to disrupt Karabakh talks.

“However, Armenia immediately announced that it would continue the negotiations,” the Minister said.

He labeled the incident as “unacceptable, shameful and trampling down the expectations and approaches of the civilized world.”

“But, there is no alternative to negotiations,” Nalbandian said. As to other reasons for Azerbaijan’s actions, the Minister said “they may have logic different from the rest of the world.”

Ramil Safarov, who murdered Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, was extradited from Hungary and then pardoned and glorified by Azerbaijani leadership.
