Genocide recognition by U.S. President not ruled out: ARFD member

10:18, 10.02.2010 Region: Armenia, Turkey Theme: Politics

I do not rule out that U.S. President Barack Obama will recognize Armenian Genocide, ARFD faction head Vahan Hovhannisyan told the journalists February 10. He also added that the U.S. presidents' decision will depend on the draft resolution that Foreign Affairs Committee will introduce to Congress.

Commenting on a decision to call a committee vote for Genocide resolution, Hovhannisyan underlined that examination of the issue is possible thanks to Armenian lobby efforts and U.S. does not try to pressurize Turkey.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Howard Berman has scheduled a vote of his panel on the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H.Res.252) for March 4, 2010.
