Restoration of railway via Abkhazia raises a number of questions, former Georgian Deputy FM Sergi Kapanadze said.

He believes that Armenia and Russia are more interested in the initiative than Georgia.

“Restoration of railroad traffic via Abkhazia will have a positive economic effect for everyone. But, current political and economic situation is not suitable for the reopening of railroad,” said Kapanadze, who is heading Georgia’s Reform Association.

Economic impact on Georgia is unclear, as it may affect cargo transportation from Poti port and via Baku-Akhalkalak-Kars transit road, he said.
