One of the main priorities of Ukraine’s chairmanship in the OSCE is intensifying of mediatory efforts into finding solution to the protracted conflicts in the CIS area, Ukrainian political expert believes.

“Azerbaijani officials more often call to settle the conflict by force, the intensity of armed clashes and shootings increase, Baku also voices threats to shoot down civilian aircrafts. It is unacceptable and is threatening regional security,” Oleg Smirnov, analyst from Politika analytic center told Analitika.at.ua.

He noted that Karabakh conflict has obviously become a lever of the major geopolitical players to influence regional situation, using it to solve tactical and strategic tasks.

“In this context, efforts of the official Kiev, as an OSCE chairman, are aimed at strengthening peace in the Caucasus, maintaining ceasefire and solution to the conflict based on the international law,” expert said.

On Tuesday the media hall of Ukrainian RegioNews agency hosted a roundtable discussion on Ukraine’s priorities in the OSCE. Organizers also presented “Common genocide. Sumgait, February 1988” documentary film.
