YEREVAN. – A total of 179 earthquakes were recorded in Armenia in 2012; this is less than those in 2011 (222 quakes), but more than those that were registered in 2010 (150 quakes). But there were no casualties.

Solely one case of ground water rising was recorded in the year past. No such incident was registered in 2011, but ten such cases were recorded in 2010, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.

The number of landslides in Armenia dropped in 2012 as compared to the previous years; this was 6 in the year past, 12 in 2011, and 19 in 2010. But there were no casualties.    

Also, two mines collapsed last year, but there were no casualties. There were eight such cases in 2011 and, as a result, five people died and two others were injured. Eleven such incidents were recorded in 2010, but there were no casualties.
