YEREVAN.- Committee on Lake Sevan Issues disapproved the decision to exploit the Amulsar gold mine located in Vayots Dzor region, head of the committee Vladimir Movsisyan told reporters on Wednesday.

“Amulsar is not located in the area directly impacting the Sevan basin which is protected by the law on Sevan issues. However, the mine is located near Kechut reservoir the water of which is taken to Lake Sevan. If the mine is exploited, cyanide will appear in Kechut and then in Sevan via Arpa-Sevan tunnel,” he said.

The right of exploiting Amulsar gold mine belongs to Lydian International’s fully owned subsidiary Geoteam CJSC. According to preliminary data, , there are 40 tons of gold reserves at Amulsar.
