The attempt to smuggle large amounts of gold jewelry and precious stones was prevented on April 14 at Georgia’s Sadakhlo customs checkpoint at the border with Armenia.  

Specifically, 87.96 grams of undeclared gold jewelry and 159 pieces of undeclared precious stones were discovered in the trunk of the vehicle of Russian citizen A.S., who was heading from Armenia to Georgia.     

Undeclared gold jewelry likewise were found in the trunk of the car of another Russian citizen, M.O. The latter had declared only some of them and, subsequently, five gold rings, eight earrings, three pendants, and two bracelets—weighing a total of 184.29 grams—were confiscated from the trunk of the vehicle.   

According to the expert report, the value of the seized items total 6451.9 laris (approx. $3,907.27).

The confiscated precious items are sent for an examination, Gruzia Online news agency of Georgia reports.
