YEREVAN. – Armenia is ahead of some European countries in terms of the level of democratic development.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP, head of the Armenian delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Davit Harutyunyan stated the aforesaid to news reporters during the PACE Standing Committee session, which is being held Friday in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

In his words, comparing Armenia with other countries enables to see a positive difference.

“Armenia is not set apart from the rest of the countries. On the contrary, it has passed several countries, including in the development of democratic values and the quality of holding elections,” Harutyunyan said.

Commenting with respect to the draft declaration on the Karabakh conflict, which—that is, the declaration—will be adopted during the session, the Armenian MP noted that the declaration is a standard statement.

Harutyunyan recalled that in accordance with the PACE Charter, the current session of its Standing Committee is convened in the country—in this case, Armenia—which now chairs the Council of Europe Ministers’ Committee.

“It is very important that the delegates visit, [and] see our country; this significantly changes their attitude toward it,” Davit Harutyunyan maintained.
