YEREVAN. – PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon said it is completely normal when the opposition is staging a protest.

His comments came in response to a protest action of the Youth Union of the opposition Armenian National Congress in front of capital city Yerevan’s Armenia Marriott Hotel, where the PACE Standing Committee session was convened.

“We want freedom of expression to be respected and the press to be free,” he said, adding that the question asked by a reporter proves there is complete press freedom.

PACE is following situation in a country through report submitted by monitoring committee and a report regularly issued by human rights commissioner.

As regards the opposition, Jean-Claude Mignon said the most important is to work in the interests of the country whether you represent majority or the opposition.

“Majority needs opposition. There is no democracy without opposition,” he emphasized.
