The United States attach great importance to development of economic cooperation with Armenia, strengthening of democracy and ensuring security of friendly Armenian nation, Secretary of State said.

John Kerry met with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Wednesday within the framework of Nalbandian’s U.S. trip.

Secretary of State noted that Armenia and U.S. are partners on many initiatives, stressing Armenia’s contribution to keeping peace in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues related to cooperation in different fields, development of economic ties, activities of inter-governmental commission. They underscored importance of the start of dialogue on relaxation of visa requirements, restoration of Millennium Challenges program in Armenia.  

John Kerry reiterated U.S. assistance to full normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations.

The sides exchanged views on the process of peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Secretary of State Kerry stressed that the U.S., being a co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group, will continue to assist the parties to reach agreement and peaceful settlement of the conflict, which will create new opportunities for the development of the South Caucasus region, strengthening security and stability.

Having accepted Nalbandian’s invitation to visit Armenia, John Kerry said that he would like to visit the country this year.
