YEREVAN. – Armenia lags significantly behind many other countries in terms of the number of women in the army.

Nagorno-Karabakh War veteran, Major General Arkadi Ter-Tadevosyan, noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Saturday.

In his words, the number of women presently serving in the Armenian Armed Forces is a mere 1.5-2 percent, against the 10 percent in most other countries.

“Military service plays a positive role in a girl’s development. Modern military equipment gradually develops in Armenia and women master this equipment magnificently,” Ter-Tadevosyan noted.

He stressed that there were numerous women among the defenders of the country during the Karabakh War.

Arkadi Ter-Tadevosyan also highlighted that the preparation of a “brain center” will make women’s involvement in the army development become more effective.
