ISTANBUL. – Murat Nazaryan, who is imprisoned on charges of attacking elderly Istanbul-Armenian women, denied the charges that are laid against him, and he claimed that he killed no one.

The first court session of the trial into the case of Nazaryan was held in Istanbul, CNN Turk news agency of Turkey reports.

Eren Keskin, legal representative of the assault victims, stated that the indictment is incomplete because, during the period when these crimes occurred, attacks were carried out against several women in various locations. She stated that the attacked women were Armenian, and the brutality of the murder makes it possible to conclude that the murder was a hate crime. In the attorney’s words, the investigation had found out that the eyewitnesses had seen two more men at the scene of the crime, but no attention was paid to this detail.

In his turn, Nazaryan noted that he had nothing to say, since he had killed no one.

The court adjourned, but it did not change Nazaryan’s confinement condition.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Murat Nazaryan is charged with the murder of Marissa Kucuk, 85, and the assaults against two other elderly Armenian women.

To note, a number of attacks were carried out, between December 2012 and January 2013, against elderly Armenian women in Istanbul’s densely-Armenian-populated Samatya district, and Istanbul Armenian Murat Nazaryan was arrested on suspicion of carrying out these assaults.

Those who know Nazaryan claim that he is a very calm person and it is mind-boggling that he is accused of carrying out such act. It is also noted that Murat Nazaryan has no relatives and he has mental disorders.
