YEREVAN. – Presidential elections in Iran were held at high democratic level, MP of the Iranian parliament Karen Khanlarian said.

The MP recalled that the voter turnout reached 71 percent and 51 percent voted for Rouhani.

“Therefore, we can state high democracy index which is meeting the European standards,” he said.

Further deepening of Armenia-Iran relations, implementation of new project in economy, education and culture is expected with the election of a new president.

Asked about possible changes on Iranian nuclear program, Karen Khanlarian recalled that the program exists for several years and is aimed at preserving oil resources.

“West is trying to politicize the issue. It is wrong policy. The elections were democratic enough which was stated by the western countries, too,” he added.
