YEREVAN. – A workshop and a staff training, toward the implementation of the national response plan in the case of an accident at Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, was held from Tuesday to Thursday in capital city Yerevan.

The Atom 2013 staff training was organized by the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) and the US Embassy in Armenia, and along the lines of the emergency planning program.

Also, the MES employees with disabilities took part in the training for the first time, the MES news service informs.   

The main objectives of the event were to improve the skills of disaster response forces and to enhance cooperation between local and international organizations.

The subject matter of the aforesaid training was the organization of people’s protection in the case of an accident at the nuclear plant.    

On Wednesday, Emergency Situations Minister Armen Yeritsyan and US Ambassador John Heffern visited the study headquarters of the Atom 2013 staff training. They expressed a satisfaction by the course of the training and the work that is carried out.     

Speaking to news reporters, Ambassador Heffern underscored the uninterrupted operation of the power plant, and noted that the US makes efforts toward ensuring the energy security of Armenia and it collaborates with MES. 

During the talk between Armen Yeritsyan and John Heffern, a preliminary agreement was reached with regard to collaboration between the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the US Federal Emergency Management Agency.
