YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Human Rights Defender, Karen Andreasyan, will return to the country on Tuesday at dawn, the ombudsman’s office told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

On the same day, Andreasyan will convene a press conference during which he will provide details on his trip to Moscow, specifically with respect to the case involving arrested Armenian driver Hrachya Harutyunyan.

At present, however, the Human Rights Defender’s Office has no information on the details of Andreasyan’s visit.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Karen Andreasyan, on Sunday will head to Moscow, in connection with the case involving Hrachya Harutyunyan. The ombudsman is expected to see Harutyunyan. Also, Andreasyan will examine the case with the driver’s attorneys. Along the lines of his visit to the Russian capital city, Armenia’s ombudsman will hold talks with several officials that are associated with this matter, and meet with local Armenian community representatives and other interested persons.

To note, a truck crashed into a passenger bus on July 13 outside Moscow, and it was found out that the truck driver was an Armenian citizen by the name of Hrachya Harutyunyan. The impact of the crash was so powerful that the bus had split in two. The accident claimed 18 lives and about 50 others were hospitalized. The court had Harutyunyan arrested on Monday. In addition, he was brought to the courtroom with slippers and a women’s robe. This fact caused widespread discontent among the Armenian public, and protests were staged across the Russian Embassy in Armenia.
