YEREVAN. – Ruben Margaryan, who is the legal defender of Hrachya Harutyunyan, met with Armenia’s Human Rights Defender, Karen Andreasyan, on Monday in the Armenian capital city Yerevan.

The matters, which were directly related to the details of the criminal case that is launched in Russia against Harutyunyan, were not presented to the media for obvious reasons.

As for the confinement conditions of the Armenian suspect and the fact that he was brought to the courtroom in a women’s robe, Margaryan specifically said as follows:

“I met with Hrachya Harutyunyan in person on July 25. The confinement conditions are completely satisfactory. He is coming out of the shock, but he still is under medical supervision and he receives the necessary medical treatment.

“As for the fact of bringing the suspect to the courtroom with a women’s robe, I am confident that the relevant agencies will give their assessment on this fact and such violation of human rights will not remain without consequences. The Armenian Embassy in Russia has already sent a respective petition, and I do not intend to neglect this issue.

“It is apparent that this incident has no connection with the nationality of the defendant; this is simply a pronounced example of ‘systemic apathy’ toward man. We will bring this matter to its logical end.”

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a truck crashed into a passenger bus on July 13 outside Moscow, and it was found out that the truck driver was an Armenian citizen by the name of Hrachya Harutyunyan. The impact of the crash was so powerful that the bus had split in two. The accident claimed 18 lives and about 50 others were hospitalized. The court had Harutyunyan arrested on July 15. In addition, he was brought to the courtroom with slippers and a women’s robe. This fact caused widespread discontent among the Armenian public, and protests were staged across the Russian Embassy in Armenia.
