The Azerbaijani MFA proved once again its notorious image this week, Armenian News-NEWS.am reports. Previously it impressed the world by blacklisting U.S. and European elected officials, who dared to visit Nagorno Karabakh Republic, with which Azerbaijan has territorial dispute.
This time Azeri government was furious due to the decision of Karabakh MFA to open official accounts in Facebook and Twitter. The spokesperson of Azerbaijani MFA Elman Abdullaev marked the decision to open official accounts in social networks as “illegal”.
The absurdity of Azeri government’s position needs no comment, especially taken into account the troubled situation with freedom of speech. There were many cases recorded by transnational organizations, when Azerbaijani citizens were imprisoned for expressing their opinion. At the moment Azerbaijan is attempting to export its “standards of democracy” and to enforce social networks to follow them.
Interestingly, the enraged comments by Azeri officials further promoted the accounts of Karabakh MFA, as a result, the number of their followers increased.
