YEREVAN. – Protraction of the ICRC delegates’ meeting with captive Karabakh soldier is flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, head of the working group of the Armenian State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons said.

The only thing Armen Kaprielyan is surprised at is lack of progress in thinking of those responsible for the work of Azerbaijani special services, he told Armenian News-NEWS.am. They have not improved their system of political propaganda and use “primitive tools” to present the story with the Karabakh captive.

Kaprielyan is concerned over the fact that the Armenian side had not received an official confirmation on a meeting of the Armenian captive with ICRC delegates.

“This is a direct and blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions. Instead, Azerbaijani staged a TV show in the format of “an exclusive interview” as if the interviewee were a pop star, not a prisoner of war. I want once again to declare publicly that psychological and physical pressure on prisoners of war is inadmissible and they need to comply with all the provisions and rules of international humanitarian law,” he said.

As  informed earlier, Armenian soldier Hakob Injighulyan (born in 1991) found himself in the territory under the control of the adversary. According to preliminary information, Injighulyan turned up there on Thursday at around 3am, while carrying out his military service, by crossing the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR)-Azerbaijan border, and as a result of losing his orientation in the area. An investigation is underway to determine the details of the incident, the NKR MOD press service had informed.
