YEREVAN. – The activists, who are staging a protest against the decision to raise the university tuition fees at the universities in Armenia, on Tuesday gathered in front of the Education and Science Ministry.

The activists were invited for talks at the ministry, but they initially refused the invitation saying they want for the minister, Armen Ashotyan, to come down. Some time thereafter, however, the youth decided to go up and meet with Ashotyan. The minister told them that he is ready listen to all proposals, the ministry Information and Public Relations Department told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“But the youth did not offer any request, proposal. They stressed that the minister come down and they will make their demands there. The minister said the location of the talk is not important. But the activists insisted that the minister come down,” the ministry informed.

Subsequently, the youth left, whereas the minister gave clarifications to news reporters.

Ashotyan stressed that he welcomes civil initiatives, and he is always open for suggestions and discussions. The minister also presented the main outlook in connection with the raising of the tuition fees, and the state of Armenia’s institutions of higher education.
