YEREVAN. – Syrian businessman, owner of solar water heater factory Shahen Cherkezian refused to move his business to Armenia, his partner said.

Suren Grigoryan, who is program’s partner from Armenia, said the equipment was transported from Syria’s Homs to Lebanon. Cherkezian wanted to transport it to Armenia and provide jobs for 200 people who used to work with him in Syria.

“Prior to setting up a company, the businessman decided to learn more about tax and customs services to find out whether it is easy to start a business for Diaspora Armenians. Making all calculations, he gave up the idea. It’s a pity, because the project would help create new jobs, including those for Syrian Armenians,” Grigoryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Cherkezian plans to resume production of solar water heaters either in neighboring Georgia or Lebanon.
