Excavations will be carried out in the ruins of Ani, the capital in the reign of Armenian royal Bagratuni dynasty, which is currently located in the territory of Turkey.

Director of Kars province’s department of culture and tourism Hakan Doganay said the culture and tourism ministry has allocated 110,000 liras for excavations which will last 45 days.  

The last excavations at Ani were held two years ago, he said in an interview with Anadolu agency.

Turkish official said that under the reign of Russia, excavations lasted 14 years, and four carriages of artifacts were transported to Russia, he said, adding that most of them are displayed in museums.
