Skin anthrax was recorded, on October 4, among three persons in Hartagyugh village of Armenia’s Lori Region.

As a result of the visits by the representatives of the Health Ministry and the health care facilities in the region, eight more such cases were detected.

Skin anthrax was confirmed among seven patients; they are hospitalized and are receiving necessary treatment. Doctors say they are in average critical condition but are recovering their health.

The probable source of the anthrax virus are the reports about animals dying in the village, and the fact that their meat was used as food.

It was found out that some of this meat was taken to Gyumri city.

Four people suspected of carrying the anthrax virus were reported in Gyumri; they are hospitalized, and their laboratory tests and treatment are in progress.

The regional visits are continuing.

The said meat is confiscated, as the likely source of the virus, and the household items are being disinfected.
